Gellar would later reprise her role as Kathryn in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series
Chronology
After an embarrassing incident at their elite college, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien set out to preserve their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the vice president of the American world in Scratched Names (1999). The direct-to-video sequel Scratched Names 2 (2000), in which Amy Adams replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series before being adapted into a feature film.
Not to say they aren’t decent actors
With the exception of Sara Silva, who played CeCe, the entire cast was terribly cast. To say the acting was subpar is an understatement.
It’s not a completely different story
But the main characters were definitely not suited to the roles. The plot was decent, and while it’s clear that they’re not the same characters as in the original film, they’re loosely based on them.
They copied certain scenes from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie
Lucian was supposed to be a sexy character like Sebastian, but how Zak Burgess was thought to be the right look and actor for the role is lost on me. Sara Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job as a slut, but like Zak and the character of Lucien, they didn’t really convey "sexy and seductive".
It would have helped if the show hadn’t used the name Cruel Intentions, but regardless, these actors and actresses just missed the mark
